WebDec 14, 2024 · This is the wildest, most remote and breathtaking (in both sense of the word). The views are spectacular, there are quite steep gradients, a totally engrossing walk. We started from the National Trust car park in Porthor. Walk between the toilet blocks ( thankfully open), onto the path. WebJan 26, 2010 · The beach at Porthor is known as the Whistling Sands, which in many ways is an odd name because squeaking sands would be more appropriate. As you walk along the beach the sand squeaks underfoot. I experienced a similar phenomena on Whitehaven Beach, Whitsundays, Australia beach and it’s distinctly odd.
